Why We Are Holding a Waiting List for Non-Urgent GP Appointments

At Hereford Medical Group, we want to keep patients informed about how we manage appointments and why some non urgent GP requests are currently placed on a waiting list.

All Appointment Requests Are Reviewed by a GP

Every request submitted to the practice is triaged by a GP. This means each case is assessed for clinical urgency. Urgent or time-sensitive matters are prioritised for same day, or next day appointments. Non urgent concerns are safely held on a waiting list and booked when an appropriate appointment becomes available.

Reducing the Number of Missed Appointments

Booking appointments too far in advance increases the chance of patients not attending. On average, we have just under 1,000 missed appointments each month. These missed appointments take up valuable clinical time that could otherwise be used for other patients. By booking appointments closer to the actual appointment date, we reduce the number of missed slots and improve efficiency.

Greater Flexibility for Clinical Changes

If a clinician becomes unwell or a clinic needs to be rearranged, having a shorter booking window makes it easier to reschedule without causing long delays or disruptions. This approach helps us deliver a more reliable and responsive service.

If Your Symptoms Get Worse

If your symptoms change or worsen while you are waiting, please submit a new request via our online form. Clearly explain how your condition has changed so that a GP can reassess the urgency of your needs. If you have not heard from us within four weeks of your original request, we also encourage you to contact us again so that we can review your case.

We’re Expanding to Improve Access

We understand that waiting for a routine appointment can be frustrating, and we’re actively working to reduce waiting times. Several new GPs will be joining the practice over the coming months, which will increase appointment availability and improve access to care.

Thank you for your patience and support as we continue working to provide safe, effective, and timely care for all our patients.
